Getting to know the designer
About Amanda
Hi and welcome to my website. Let me take a moment and give you a few more details about me "The Designer".
My name is Amanda and I am a wife and stay at home mother of 4 very special children.(On the good days) They are my joy and inspiration. I have been married to my husband Christopher for 12 years now. We are like two kids, always a ball of fun. I man the fort while he plays with guns. In another words we are a military family.
I began learning to sew when I was quite young. I always remember my mother sewing little things here and there. One of my favorites was a hooded jacket made in a fleece panda print. Oh how I love pandas. Long before Sygnet Creations, I was best known for my nursing skills. At the age of 17, I began working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the local nursing home. It was one of my favorite jobs to date. When I graduated high school in 1998 I was sure nursing school was in my future. It just wasn't in the cards or budget so I headed back to where Chris was stationed. I worked retail and customer service off and on over my entire adult life. I have learned a great many things about my customers both as an employee and as a boss.
My kids are my world so I wanted to stay home with them like my mother did for me. I also wanted to do something in my spare time. My husband purchased my very first sewing machine. It was a White brand sewing machine with no bells or whistles but I loved it just the same. I made my very first blanket on it the same day. I think hubby still uses it on cold winter nights. After I honed my skills a bit I started making blankets for friends, neighbors and associates. One Christmas I even made them for all the young Airmen we knew and put them under my tree. I really enjoyed seeing their faces when they realized the packages under my tree where for them. It didn't take long and I was making blankets for everyone. With my second child born and less time for big projects I moved on to neck pillows. I hated how my son would always flop over when he feel asleep in the car. The pillows in stores just weren't my style. I headed to the fabric store instead. The first pillow I made was not as firm (maybe not enough fluff) and I must say not the best looking either. I worked and worked until I was able to draw the perfect pattern. This pattern is the same one I use today.
Many of my friends are my best customers. They are the reason I opened up to the world wide web. I have always been told "You should totally sell these online." but I didn't even know where to start. I searched for other homemade items and that is when I found Etsy. What can I say other then
I LOVE ETSY. So many great homemade sellers, a great community, and of course a way to make my items available to all! After all this fun what more can I say =) I tend to be an open book with many pages. Some are torn and folded over but it still has a lot to offer the world!
Head Pillow Stuffer!
This is Christopher, my Head Pillow Stuffer! Seems like a quirky title but the name says it all. Christopher is my best friend and ever faithful co-defendant =).
During his day job Chris is a hard working professional in the US Air
Force. He enjoys video games, family, working with his hands, and has a
passion for tattoos. With his robust personality and cuddly teddy bear
exterior he tends to stand out amongst the crowd.
At night he is in charge of hand stuffing each Neck Nest pillow, after which he inspects and hands them over to me for final stitching. With out him my production time would double and the end result might just be limp pillows. Chris keeps me sane and our pillows looking fluffy! He is also in charge of packaging and shipping. Don't mistake those pretty bows for a woman's touch, he is all man! =)
